Description: This cedar point box, in the form of a whale, probably dates to early in the third quarter of the 19th century. The hinged lid is a replacement, however the box otherwise is in original condition. The cut whale flukes seen on many examples of point boxes are believed to have a particular significance. This piece is probably from Northwest Alaska.
