Description: Heavily patinated tobacco canteen made of hammered copper with an elevated insert soldered on. The letters on the insert were individually stamped and say "Sgt, Kyetena 1886" in the center and "Fort Bowie 4th Cav. U.S. Army Scout" around the outside. The stopper, made from an army cavalry button is attached to the canteen with a copper chain. Sgt. Kyetena was reported to be instrumental in talking Geronimo into surrendering to Gen. Crook in 1884. The canteen was probably made by an army trooper and given to Kyetena.
